Dans les banlieues de Babylone, une maladie inconnue infecte toute la population... chaque homme alors possédé par la fièvre voient soudain le monde non plus avec l'oeil mais à travers l'oeil. Car il n'y a point d'hommes entre les murs de Babylone, car un monstre garde son ciel impénétrable, car ses palais abritent le bestiaire d'Ereshkigal, car ils revêtent en la souillant la divine forme humaine, "mort à l'esprit de Nabu!", suivons l'ancien corsaire au service des rois d'or, celui qui, dès lors qu'il devient infecté, se retrouve nanti d'un étrange pouvoir.
